The Replacements

Seven Second Delay returns -- apparently -- on January 3rd, coming back from a one-week hiatus. This week was a fill-in rather than a rerun, and in case next week is the same deal, here, for you, is a SSD episode not (readily) available from the FMU archives.

It's 2000's "Bathroom Sting", in which Andy stood outside the station in a light rain, begging passers-by to come inside and use the bathroom -- a bathroom Andy had decorated with enticing items the pedestrians might have been tempted to steal. It was a true test of character; entrapment usually is.

Here for you.
May 24, 2000: Bathroom Sting (rebroadcast August 13, 2003) (MP3, 35MB)

David Herman, Superstar

Last week, you heard none other than David Herman on our very own Seven Second Delay. This in depth interview was made possible by devoted Listener Terry. You may know Superstar David Herman from such classic films as Office Space and Idiocracy. You can this exclusive interview here (RealAudio) or here (MP3).

Just to remind you, the next two episodes (12/27/06 and 1/3/07) will be reruns. If this gets too unbearable, and you just have to hear Andy's voice live, try tracking him (and his little doll) down by searching through every NYC comedy club that has an open mic night on Thursdays.

Memory Challenge

December 20, 2006: David Herman, Superstar

Seven Second Delay has wrapped for 2006 and Andy and Ken can barely remember three shows they did this year, or well, one, even. How about you? You probably can, actually. Also you can cheat. So instead let's name our three favorite shows from 2006. (Reruns don't count.)

Watch me go!

1. How Big Is Your Cubicle?
2. Father's Day Advice, Part Two
3. We ID Movie Song Snippet

Available... to Take Your Calls

As websites flew over the airwaves last week, I called into the show and had a little chat with Call Screener Jeff.

Jeff: Why don't you ever talk about me on the blog?
Andrea: Wait. Do you really want to be mentioned?

He was right. I don't ever mention him on the blog. I thought fast. What do I know about Call Screener Jeff that I could ask him about over the phone for my regular gossip and scoops section of this blog? The truth is that all I know about our Call Screener has come from what Andy mumbles during the foreplay of each show. Usually, Jeff is just called a loser until Ken reminds Andy that Jeff is probably listening to the show. I said...

Andrea: So, you're engaged, right?

I was wrong. The one thing I thought I knew about this man behind 201.209.9368 was completely wrong, and I feel just awful about it. I hope this little anecdote can be a lesson to us all that that your friendly Call Screener is more than just a voice between you and your on-air celebrity. He is a real person who wants to be mentioned in your blog posts.

If you could ask Call Screener Jeff anything, what would it be?

Promote! Your! Website!

On tonight's show, listeners were given the chance to promote their websites. Each listener's 15-30 seconds in the SSD sun was determined using a complicated formula that favored cute girls and Germans. Here's the list I have patched together so far, but feel free to post with your additions until I'm able to go pull apart the coms, slashes and all that lather.

Secret Santa 2006

It's the greatest time of year - no, not the holidays - the 7SD secret santa exchange! This show is particularly fun because you can hear about things that people like, which could by anything from regional candy to stickers to softcore porn. This show is also fun because Andy is on. He's just on. You can listen to gift exchange arrangements here (RealAudio) or here (MP3).

During the show, Ken mentions that his brother is indirectly involved in a cheating scandal at Columbia. If you're curious, you can read the New York Times article here.

"I'm talking to you" = catch phrase of the year?

Found Breckmanalia

Maybe you've already seen this, but if you want to thrill to Our Hero's misanthropy without waking the neighbors, you can discover the peccadilloes of that "Starry, Starry Night" assbag here.'

'I started out as a folkie. I thought I was Bob Dylan. None of my so-called friends had the fucking courtesy to tell me I wasn't Bob Dylan. Anyway, I figured what I needed was a big-time show biz manager, so I sent out a bunch of demo tapes....'

For extra credit: Using historical examples, explain how being "well-known in folk circles" differs from being well-known in drum circles.
